Adega de Vidigueira creates a Sustainability Office
01/02/2022According to Porto Editora, in 2019, “Sustainability” was one of the 10 most used words of the year. Then came COVID-19 and the concerns changed. However, companies such as Adega da Vidigueira maintained their plan to restructure buildings and activities in order to move towards increasingly sustainable alternatives, thus reducing the impact they have on the environment, both globally and locally.
Cost reduction, use of renewable energy through Solar Panels, savings in water consumption, more ecological packaging, reduction of plastics are, for example, some of the measures that Adega Cooperativa de Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito has been implementing throughout of recent years.
With the growth of this area, the Adega created a specific office, which will not only deal with environmental sustainability, but will also be in charge of all projects that may arise – Sustainability and Projects Office. This will be in the care of Rita Ferro, Food Engineer, who for the last 7 years has worked in the Technical Department of the Winery.
For Rita Ferro, «this was a decisive step for the Adega Cooperativa de Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito», she says. He continues «In recent years we have made several changes to our structure, in order to become increasingly sustainable. All actions focused on increasing the quality of business life of employees, assuring our consumers that we are doing everything in our power to take care of the ecosystems and people of today and tomorrow. It is important for companies to be an example of the commitment to a circular economy, while promoting an increase in individual environmental awareness». Finally, he adds: «It is our ambition to achieve, as soon as possible, certification within the scope of the Alentejo Wines Sustainability Program, he adds.
